The information contained on this website is educational in nature and is provided only as general information and is not medical or psychological advice. While Dorothy Miller is a Certified EFT Practitioner from EFT International (EFTi) her services are not licensed by the state of North Carolina. She is not a psychotherapist, physician, or other licensed health care provider. Therefore, she does not provide psychological or medical diagnosis or treatments or any other licensed health care services in her EFT session. EFT seeks to address imbalances within a person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body. The prevailing premise of EFT is that the source of all negative, challenging, and stressful emotions and limiting beliefs is a disruption in the flow of information and energy in the mind/body system. It is believed that EFT helps clear these disruptions, thereby restoring the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies. EFT uses the ancient Chinese meridian system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian points on the face and upper body while saying specific phrases and focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. The theory of energy-based methods such as EFT is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for overall health and for fostering well-being. Although EFT appears to have promising health and wellness benefits, and there is a growing amount of scientific research indicating that EFT meets the criteria to be considered an evidence-based technique for managing stress, it is considered outside traditional Western approaches to health and wellness. Therefore, EFT has yet to be thoroughly accepted by the Western academic, medical, and psychological communities. Consequently, EFT is currently not officially identified as an evidence-based technique and may be considered experimental. Due to EFT’s experimental nature, the extent of its effectiveness, as well as its risk and benefits, are not fully known. EFT is self-regulated and no state in the United States licenses EFT practitioners and considers EFT to be a complementary and alternative wellness approach.
